Lots of Snow, Lots of Fun, Lots of People

This Saturday-Monday (Jan 15-17, 2011) is the MLK Holiday Weekend, and lots of folks will be taking advantage of the long weekend to go skiing at Butternut. We’re delighted you’ll be here, and we wanted to take this opportunity to give you some pointers to beat the crowds and get the most out of your ski vacation.

(1) ARRIVE EARLY: Our lifts open at 8:15AM and there’s never a line at that hour, or much for several hours thereafter. So, don’t sleep in! Set the alarm for crack-of-dawn and drag your whole sleepy-eyed family out to the slopes. Once everyone’s fully awake, they’ll be awfully glad they made it for first tracks, even if they may have uttered some expletives when you rustled them out of bed.

(2) DO NOT PASS GO, GO STRAIGHT TO RENTALS: If anyone in your group needs rental equipment, go straight to rentals. You can get EVERYTHING you need at rentals, including lift tickets and group lessons. Rentals opens early (before 8:00AM), and the sooner you get there, the sooner you’ll be out enjoying the mountain. You can even show up after 3:00PM on Friday to pick up your rentals for the weekend (we won’t charge you for an extra day), and you can get multi-day rentals so you only have to go through the process once.

(3) EAT EARLY, EAT LATE: Lunch lines are longest around noon, so how about grabbing breakfast or a snack from one of our lodges as you’re getting your boots on, or have lunch before 11:30AM or after 1:30PM.

(4) LEAVE EARLY or STAY LATE: Pack in a lot of skiing before 3PM and then be the first to make a splash in the hotel pool; or make last tracks, enjoy an apres-ski hot cocoa, and maybe even partake in some night tubing. The “4:00 rush” means there’ll be a line of cars slowly snaking out our parking lot and down to the stoplight on Route 23.

(5) OTHER ENTERTAINMENT: You can stick around and shop for skis, boards, clothing, and accessories from 8AM until 5PM at our award-winning ski shop, or play on our tubing hill from 10AM until 8PM.

(6) MAKE DINNER RESERVATIONS: Downtown GB will be a hoppin’ place this weekend, and though we’ve got plenty of great restaurants, it’s always a good idea to call ahead. An INCOMPLETE list of local restaurants can be found on our website.

(7) ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE: What’s a little lift line here or there when you’re enjoying exciting winter sports, in beautiful New England, with wonderful friends and family, at an oasis of awesomeness and joy?

The snow conditions are top notch and the base is deep. This weekend’s forecast looks great, too. We can’t wait to see you here!
