Skiing: Coming to a Television Near You

Move over Golf Channel
Move over Speed
Move over ESPN1, and 2, and 3
(and apparently a channel devoted to poker, too)
and make room for me!

Skiing and snowboarding have finally found a dedicated spot on your TV. Sort of.

The Ski Channel is now available on some cable networks, including Time Warner, Great Barrington’s cable provider.

But good luck finding it. It doesn’t have any live programming, or any race or World Cup coverage, or even any weekly series. Technically, it doesn’t even really have its own channel number. On cable systems that carry it (currently Time Warner, AT&T, Verizon FiOs, Cox, and DirecTV), it’s buried somewhere deep in the on-demand tier, generally in a sub-menu of a channel for sports on demand or free on demand programming.

But, if you are lucky enough to be on a broadcast system that carries it, and clever enough to find it, you’ll be treated to a variety of ski and snowboard documentaries, reality shows, and – of course – movies, including several Warren Miller classics. All for free.

It’s a great way to pass the time between the hours of 4PM and 8:15AM when, sadly, you can’t be making your own tracks at Ski Butternut.
