Rally to Restore Snow and/or Cold

As you may know, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert just finished hosting a massive rally in Washington, DC, with the stated purpose of restoring sanity (in the case of Stewart) or keeping fear alive (in the case of Colbert). Their rally featured a star-studded cast, with appearances by the Roots, John Legend, Sam Waterston, Jeff Tweedy, Mavis Staples, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, The-man-formerly-known-as-Cat-Stevens, Ozzy Osbourne, The dudes from Mythbusters (true story: I sat next to Adam Savage on a 6-hour cross-country flight a few years ago, but didn’t realize who he was until his face popped up on the TV screen in front of my seat), 4Troops, R2D2, Armando Galarraga, Mick Foley, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a giant papier-mache Colbert, Anderson Cooper’s tight black t-shirt, and a 7-year-old girl, amongst others.

Not to be outdone, we here at Ski Butternut will be holding our 48th Annual Rally to Bring Back Winter on or shortly after Friday, November 26, 2010 (weather permitting). Scheduled to appear are: That nice lady who sold you your lift ticket, That dude in the cafeteria who makes a mean cheeseburger, Guy who didn’t get the message that straight skis and bright-colored one-piece snowsuits are so 1980s, a line-up of ski and snowboard instructors who are a little too matchy-matchy, family of 12 that somehow manages to fit all the kids and gear in the minivan (and still see out the back window, for safety’s sake!), man who wants his season pass photo retaken for the 42nd time because he thinks it looks bad (don’t worry, dude, we all look terrible in pass photos), liftie who always seems to be here (true story: he sleeps in the mechanical room right above the chairlift loading area), 7-year-old girl who can ski Lucifer’s Leap better than any adult on the mountain, and others.

We hope to see you there!
