Those who don’t ski or snowboard don’t have to spend their entire winter indoors. Anyone who can bear the cold can find enjoyment in a day of snow tubing at area ski resorts. Ski areas with designated tubing “lanes” are becoming popular winter destinations for folks who don’t want to hassle with ski equipment or its expense.

“It’s a great family experience,” said Matthew R. Sawyer, director of marketing and sales at Ski Butternut in Great Barrington. “You can go faster on some (tracks) and slower on others because there’s a difference in the slope of the hill. You can race, and you can spin the tubes so you can have an enjoyable, disorienting time.”
